Challenge Selves, Train Teams

From October 19 to 20, 2016, 85 old and new employees of Palm Springs Lianying Property in Chengdu and Chongqing went to the Banan Qiaoping Resort Hotel to conduct a two-day outward bound of “challenge selves,train teams”. The purpose of the training is to strengthen the construction of corporate culture, the team spirit of cooperation, and tap the potential of employees. The training was led by Guo Yun, the deputy general manager of property, jointly organized by Wang Li, the manager of Administrative Personnel Department, in collaboration with Chengdu Kaipu Culture Training Company. The training included 5 items as “strength of breath”, “rapid 60 seconds” and “thrilling countdown”, “people paddled the big boat”, “dragon treasure”. The 85 employees were randomly divided into four teams - the Youth Sunshine, the Light, the Thunder and the Happy.
 
 
Starting from the ice-breaking session, the team members gave full play to their collective wisdom, designed team names, flags, team call and team songs, selected captains and secretaries to form a team, which quickly eliminated the barriers between the team members and established trust. The next quiz “how many clap a minute” let us see the power of potential: in fact, we can do a lot more than we think.
 
 
The first item of this training was “strength of breath”. Each team got a drawing of the ventilator, but only the leadership can see it. How to describe the drawing contents to the delivery group so that the team can build the ventilator and blow out five balloons in the shortest time possible, was the competition of systematic thinking, communication skills and division of labor and execution. In the process of completing the task of the four teams, each link embodied the communication and cooperation of the team, and it also made us realize the importance of effective communication and cooperation of the team.
 
 
The second item was “rapid 60 seconds”. Following the rules in this item, four teams were required to pick out three groups of 1 to 12 patterns from a pile of cards with no numbers, but images, the team with the highest continuous correct numbers won. After three rounds of competition, no team found all the cards, but the players carefully summed up the experience and lessons from the game: to effectively complete the task, we must work together through a reasonable division of labor among each member of the team, and discipline is the only way to achieve it.
“Thrilling countdown” item required a total of five sets of challenge projects within the specified time. In the face of such more links and projects, the first round completion time of each team was not ideal. After a reasonable division of labor, optimization of link convergence, repeated training and running-in of tacit degree, all four teams have successfully completed the challenge than thought under the circumstance that the time limit was getting shorter and shorter, showing us the potential and the results of improving efficiency effectively.
 
 
“People paddled the big boat” item can be counted as the “major play” of the training. All the staff formed a circle, pulled the rope into a circle and paddled along with the rhythm of the music. In the implementation of the item, the coach invited the captains and secretaries of the four teams to stand on the rope and walk the whole rope. The maximum number of people on the rope reached 8. Everyone sweated at the great physical exertion of the project, but for team success, no one complained or gave up. Some had blood marks on their hands, but never slackened; others got soaked in their clothes and still struggling on the rope. After a day of running in, the cooperation, trust, persistence and team commitment were incisively and vividly displayed.
 
 
On October 20th, the item “dragon treasure” can be described as thrilling and exciting coexistence. The task was to dig gems at the dragon ruins within 25 days, then return to their places of origin, exchange them for cash, and judge the outcome by the total amount of cash they received. As daily travel and decision making were influenced by various factors such as the weather, some expeditions can move forward steadily according to established plans, some expeditions suffered from continuous severe weather and ran out of food because of inadequate risk assessment and poor data analysis. This item provided an effective review of our actual work, and at the same time gave us a deep sense of the importance of goal setting, data analysis, resource allocation, team assistance, etc..
 
 
Although the time was short, each of us has benefited a lot from the two days of expansion. In these two days,we experienced team formation, demonstration, integration, responsibility, undertaking, trust, team, collaboration and so on, we challenged and conquered ourselves, at the same time we deeply understood the true meaning of “team”. In the final summary of the training, Mr. Guo affirmed the earnest participation of all the trainees over the past two days, and also stressed the need to apply what was learned, to apply the goal management, team collaboration, communication and understanding, mutual help learned in the training into the actual work, so that the work can produce results and performance, to achieve the true purpose of the training. The staff responded positively with a full attention and warm applause.
 
Finally, at 17: 00 of October 20th, 2016 outward bound of Palm Springs Lianying Property “challenge selves, train teams” successfully concluded in the team photo and cheers of all the students.
